As my son and I got on I-74 and headed east towards West Lafayette in the dark, there was a planet right in front of us. I thought it was Mars. My son downloaded one of those "here's where the stars are in the sky right now" apps and it was Venus.

And then Venus disappeared as the sun began to rise. As we approached West Laffy Taffy, I had to put my visor down because the rising sun was staring us right in the face. And then, an hour ago, as I approached Champaign from the east... I had to put my visor down because the setting sun was staring us right in the face. Drive east, watch the sun rise, tailgate, beat Purdue, light the 'I', drive west, watch the sun set. The perfect day.

I mean, just perfect. I was a pacing mess during the game, as I mentioned on From The Stands, and we'll get to the game in a bit, but the pregame and postgame tailgating was perfection. Exactly what I wrote about last night. Relaxing, low key, good conversations, and none of the "I have to be forgetting something" of the last few weeks. Just... a relaxing tailgate before going into the stadium and watching my team hang on to the cannon.

This was my final paragraph last night:
