It’s 12:19 AM on a FOOTBALL SATURDAY. That means it’s SOC Time here at IlliniBoard. As it is, I’m literally sitting in Robert’s kitchen eating his pimento cheese dip with him 10 feet away from me as he writes his SOC for the Maryland game that kicks off in just 14 hours.

So here’s the thing we’re doing right now (even though Robert doesn’t know it) - dueling SOCs. I’m going to throw down all my words from tonight‘s hoops win over Colgate and try to get done before Robert finishes picking us to beat Maryland (I’m going to guess he goes with Illinois 38 Maryland 17).

Prior to tonight’s game, I was dreading the thought of slogging through a post game write up on a football eve for a snoozy buy game shoe horned in between Texas Tech and Alabama. The game program should have had “Welcome to State Farm Center for tonight’s Emotional Let Down Game vs Colgate“ stamped across the cover.

Midway through the first half, it was every bit of that. It was just a 19-16 Illinois and the energy was low both on the floor and throughout the crowd. Even Brad Underwood seemed like he really wanted to get mad at what he was seeing, but couldn‘t quite muster the requisite amount of rage.
