Brad Underwood is GREAT in post-game press conferences - full stop. For starters, he is not openly disdainful of the process (I’m looking at you Mick Cronin) and is respectful to every one in the room be they seasoned vets or Daily Illini reporters. Most importantly, though, he will actually answer the question presented to him. The vast majority of coaches I’ve encountered in my time as a quasi-journalist are one-sentence answer cliche machines - Matt Painter and Chris Collins being two notable exceptions. By contrast, Underwood will typically give a thoughtful and often times expansive response to any and all questions asked of him - even following a tough loss. It’s why his post game pressers often push 15 minutes plus.
