OVER Over
I pretty much only want to talk about the final drive. We'll talk about the rest of the game, eventually, but right now I want to talk about the final drive. A drive like that – a drive where you take the other team, put the chloroform rag over their nose and mouth, and lower them to the ground – is about as much fun as I can have as an Illini fan. Why? Because we used to experience the exact opposite.
I've been texting with Erik (the keeper of The Stats) and he reminded me of something incredible. I told him that Scott and I had discussed other Illini walkoff field goals on the postgame pod and I asked him if he could name the four walkoff field goals in the 15 years before Bielema (this is now five under Bielema in 5.5 seasons).
We both – me on the pod, him over text – guessed the Matt Eller field goal against Iowa in 2008 but that wasn't a walkoff. There were still 24 seconds left in that game. And Erik remembered why. You're not going to believe this, but you will.
