Box Scores
I left the house at 6:45 and got home at 2:45 so if I've done some proper math this was a 20 hour football day. I get home, I sit on the end of the kitchen island, I open up my laptop, and when I see the box score, man, I'm wide awake. The clock has a 3 on it right now, I've been up for 21 hours (outside in 95 degree heat) but seeing a box score makes it feel like morning. Which, I guess, it is.
I've never known why a box score means so much to me. I've told the story before about the 1979 NFL Almanac that I'd read under the covers with a flashlight when I was a kid (shoutout to the guy I met who did the same thing and even sent me a photo of an identical 1979 NFL Almanac). And an Illini football box score being distributed not long after a game ends brings me the exact same excitement.
